FloVert: Inspiring a Greener School Community Through Sustainable Initiatives

FloVert is making a lasting impact at Institut Florimont by leading the way in eco-friendly actions. Dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and the circular economy, FloVert has a number of avenues through which it reduces waste and fosters a culture of sustainability among students, parents, and staff.

Preloved sport uniform and text book sales allow families to purchase gently used school uniforms and books, offering a practical, eco-friendly alternative to buying new. Collection points for uniforms are conveniently located at the school entrance, and book donations are accepted twice a year, at the beginning and end of each school year. This system not only encourages reusing items but also educates students and families on the importance of reducing waste.

This year, all proceeds from the preloved book and uniform sales will go toward a project to coincide with Sustainability Week in March 2025. The APEF team is busily preparing a meaningful event to further its mission among the Florimont community.

One of the unique aspects of FloVert’s approach is its emphasis on student involvement. Students are invited to participate by donating their books and uniforms and by volunteering to run the sales booths, gaining hands-on experience in environmental responsibility and community service. Through these experiences, students learn the value of sustainable practices and see the positive impact of their contributions.

Florimont Students take the FloVert mission to heart. For the last two years students in the IB section organised a large clothes drive to help people in need.

Additional initiatives linked APEF to other parts of the Florimont community. FloVert team made sports shoe bags for Primaire pupils by recycling sports uniforms that were too damaged for resale. APEF FloVert team also organised and sent second-hand sports uniforms to the children of the Simba for Kids association in Kenya. This association, created by a Florimont alumnus, supports the education of disadvantaged children in Kenya.

FloVert’s efforts, thanks to all the student and parent donations, and the tireless APEF volunteers, are transforming the school into a model of sustainability, showing that with small, consistent actions, a single school community can make a significant difference. Through its preloved sales and emphasis on student involvement, FloVert is inspiring lasting change, one green action at a time.
