On 10 May, the dance group Compagnie 7273 will be presenting ‘Nuit’ (meaning ‘night’) at the Institut. Seven female dancers, united in their quest for ecstasy and freedom, perform a mystical saraband – evocative of a shamanic ritual – to the music of Egyptian composer Maurice Louca.
His combination of traditional Middle Eastern rhythms with more experimental elements inspires the dancers to move in a hypnotic circle, their bodies blurring and merging with each other.
The evening will open with a performance by a student on the Arts-Sports programme, with some of her Secondaire 2 classmates narrating a story that works in synergy with the dance. Creating a dialogue between students and artists is a passion shared by 7273 and the Institut, to instil a love of art and culture in the younger generation.
